What this site stores.

Two cookies, both set by analytics. This page names them, says what each one is for and how long it lasts, and explains how to refuse or remove them.

The cookies

_ga stores a randomly generated identifier for your browser and lasts about two years. It allows several page views to be counted as one reader rather than several. _ga_ENZYSY7FX1 serves the same purpose for this site specifically and records where one visit ends and the next begins.

Both are set by Google Analytics. Neither stores your name, your email address or anything you typed into the contact form. Both are first party, meaning they can be read only by this domain.

What they are used for

Understanding which pages are read, how readers arrive, and how the site performs. That is the whole purpose. They are not used for advertising, and nothing stored in them is sold or shared with a data broker.

How to refuse or remove them

Clearing cookies for this domain in your browser removes both. Most browsers can also block them before they are set, either for this site or for every site, from the privacy or site settings menu.

A content blocker or a privacy-focused DNS resolver stops the analytics loading at all, and many block it by default. Nothing on this site stops working when it is blocked. Google also publishes a browser extension that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site.

What is not a cookie

The network in front of this site may set its own to distinguish automated traffic from human traffic. It carries no identity and is not readable by this site.

The contact form stores what you submit, because otherwise your enquiry could not be answered. That is described on the privacy page, and it is stored on a server rather than in your browser.
