Environmental data comes from public APIs with inconsistent units, coverage gaps and revisions that arrive months later. You can draw a very clean line chart from data that does not support one. So the decision was to stop short of implying precision the inputs could not carry: where the source is coarse the figure is shown coarse, and a revision does not silently redraw history as if it had always been that way. There is goal setting and progress against it, and no confident single number claiming what your footprint is.
